AWOSLOG Privacy Policy

AWOSLOG Pilot Tracker ("the App") is a free, open-source flight tracking application. Your privacy is the foundation this service is built on — not an afterthought.

What Data We Collect

When you use the App with tracking enabled, the following data is transmitted to awoslog.com:

• GPS position — latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, heading, and accuracy
• Tail number — the aircraft N-number you enter
• Pilot name — the name you enter (optional)

That's it. We do not collect your email, phone number, device ID, advertising ID, contacts, photos, browsing history, or any other personal information.

How We Use Your Data

Your position data is used for one purpose: displaying your flight on a live map at the share URL you generate. The data is accessible only to people you share the link with.

How We Store Your Data

We don't. Position data is held in server memory only. It is never written to a database, log file, or any persistent storage. All data is automatically erased 2 hours after your last position update. There is no flight history, no archive, and no way to retrieve data after it expires.

Who Can See Your Data

Only people who have your share link. Your flight is never displayed publicly on the awoslog.com main map. The share link contains a cryptographically random identifier (UUID) that cannot be guessed. Knowing the link is the only way to view your flight.

Third-Party Sharing

We do not sell, share, trade, or transfer your data to any third party. There are no analytics services, advertising networks, or data brokers integrated into the App or the server.

Data Stored on Your Device

The App stores the following locally on your phone:

• Settings — your tail number, pilot name, and sharing mode preference
• Position buffer — GPS positions are temporarily buffered in a local SQLite database when your phone has no cell signal. Buffered positions are sent to the server when connectivity returns, then deleted from the device

No data is sent to any service other than awoslog.com.

Permissions

The App requests two permissions:

• Location (background) — required to track your flight with the screen off. GPS data is sent only to awoslog.com.
• Notifications — used to show a persistent notification while tracking is active, so you know the App is running.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Open Source

The App is open source. You can inspect exactly what data is collected and how it is transmitted by reviewing the source code at github.com/dgallant0x007/awoslog-pilot.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the revision date.
